"Nocturne" is from From: Seven Places in America: A Poetic Sojourn, Sherman Asher Press, fall 2012

Nocturne

loneliness whistles
with the tea kettle

and it is hard
not to feed the fawn
the doe with the cougar-bitten ear

snow
on the far ridge of mountain

raven is here, as expected
impossible to live
in a world without crows

when I was young
I suffered, wondering if you loved me

now ask the same of god.
